Emergent has welcomed Anum Malkani as a specialist advisor, bringing cross-sector policy expertise spanning cloud, financial services, and AI governance.
With over a decade of experience across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Anum has shaped regulatory strategy from inside both a major cloud provider and a global payments network, giving her two distinct vantage points of how regulation is evolving across the globe, and where the friction points lie.
At Amazon Web Services, she led government engagement and public policy for financial services across Asia Pacific and Japan, working directly with regulators on cloud adoption, data governance, AI/ML policy, and operational resilience during a period of significant digital infrastructure investment across the region. At Visa, she worked on financial services and technology policy, and crafted Visa’s engagement strategy in global platforms such as the G20.
“We live in a time defined by accelerating technological change, global interdependence, and geopolitical complexity. Effective policy advocacy and strategic government engagement are critical for success. Emergent’s holistic and outcomes-driven approach to public affairs is uniquely suited to this moment. I’m excited to join Emergent as an advisor, contributing my policy expertise and global perspectives to help clients succeed in an evolving policy and risk environment.” - Anum Malkani
Her broader career spans Deloitte, Microsoft, and the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan. In these roles, Anum has built expertise in advising senior government leaders and private sector clients on digital transformation, geopolitical risk, and crisis response.
"The scale of cloud and data centre investment flowing into Asia Pacific is extraordinary - and it's no longer just a technology story. It's an economic, geo/political, environmental, and social one. Effective engagement has to speak to all of those dimensions, and include communities as genuine participants in the conversation. From our first conversation, it was clear Anum sees it the same way - that's why we’re excited to welcome her." - Natasha Gray
